Homemade Chocolate Snaps

Once we became parents, my husband and I never went out for Valentine’s Day dinner. It seemed silly to not share a day dedicated to love with the two daughters who were created from the very love we shared ourselves. Our new tradition became a special family-oriented Valentine’s Day dinner, and of course chocolate was a mandatory dessert.

Since food is equally about nourishing the soul with memories, it seemed only natural to tap into my own childhood for the final course. When I was little, I had a weakness for a little brown box of cookies. Inside were crispy little coins of chocolate snaps, perfect for dunking into an icy glass of milk. When those cookies disappeared from supermarket shelves years ago, I took matters into my own hands and created a recipe for them based on my taste buds’ recollection. I’m guessing a few of you may be excited to bake up a batch with your kids too.
