Homemade Tomato Basil Sauce

Ingredients (5)

  • 6 (28-ounce) cans whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 20 cloves garlic, minced
  • salt to taste
  • 4 ounces fresh basil leaves

Directions

  1. Combine canned tomatoes with their juices, olive oil, garlic, and salt in a large saucepan.
  2. Place tomato mixture over high heat and bring to a simmer. Cook uncovered on medium low, stirring frequently to ensure the bottom of the saucepan does not burn, about 25 minutes.
  3. Puree all the tomatoes using an immersion blender until it resembles a sauce.
  4. Add basil leaves to the sauce, pressing them in and mixing them around. Let it sit for 10 minutes, add more salt if needed.
