Directions

  1. Squeeze oranges until you have 4 cups fresh orange juice (feel free to strain out the pulp if you wish – it’s also delicious to leave in the pulp.)
  2. Pour juice into a large shallow baking dish. Whisk in 5 tablespoons maple syrup. Taste for sweetness and add more maple syrup if you desire. Place dish in the freezer. After 45 minutes of freezing, take a fork and scrape the granita to break up any frozen bits. Continue to freeze for 45 minute increments and scrape until you have a wonderful ice-y granita. Store granita in the freezer until you’re ready to serve.
  3. Serve granita all on its own for a refreshing treat, or top with whipped cream and a fresh mint leaf.
